In 1983, John Burson, who then had a general practice of law in Fairfax County, Virginia, began to represent institutional mortgage lenders in Virginia. From the beginning, Mr. Burson represented clients in every county and city in Virginia.
In June, 1985, John Burson, Gerald Shapiro, and David Kreisman founded the law firm of Shapiro & Burson, LLP (then known simply as Shapiro & Burson) to provide statewide representation in Virginia and the District of Columbia to mortgage lenders with regard to foreclosures, bankruptcies, evictions, and related matters. In 1986, the firm expanded to provide statewide representation in Maryland. John Burson has been the Managing Partner of the Firm from the very beginning. Leanna Kennebeck joined the firm in 1988 and soon thereafter assumed the role of "Office Administrator". Her title is currently Director of Operations, but, regardless of job title, she has been managing our staff since the late 1980's.
Steady Growth
In the late 1980's the partners of the Firm joined with David Kayton to found First Financial Title Agency of Virginia. This was necessary to ensure that we would obtain title reports throughout our jurisdictions very quickly in order to achieve outstanding timeframes and to ensure that we received the quality and type of title reports necessary to conduct foreclosures. First Financial has offices in Rockville, MD, Fairfax, VA, and Virginia Beach, VA. First Financial works closely with the Firm on REO closings to ensure that we can provide a seamless process from foreclosure referral to closings at the outsale.
Expanding the Vision
The firm continued to grow in the 1990's. The firm opened a separate office in the City of Virginia Beach. The Virginia Beach office grew from a small satellite office to an office that, by the mid-1990's, was handling all of the Virginia foreclosure work for the firm. Christine Patterson, who has been with our firm since 1991, is the Managing Attorney of the Virginia Beach office. Dawn Brown, who has been with our firm since 1993, is the Virginia Beach Office Manager. Today, the Virginia Beach Office handles all of our Virginia work, while the Fairfax Office handles our Maryland and District of Columbia foreclosure, bankruptcy, and eviction work. |
